India's Supreme Court delays hearing on wife's challenge to climate activist Sonam Wangchuk's detention under NSA.
The Supreme Court of India has adjourned the hearing on a petition by Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, challenging his detention under the National Security Act to October 15, 2025.
Wangchuk, a climate activist, was arrested on September 26 following violent protests in Leh that left four dead and over 80 injured.
The government maintains the detention was lawful and based on grounds communicated to Wangchuk, while his wife argues the lack of disclosure to her family prevents legal challenge under Article 22.
The petition claims the detention is politically motivated, targeting peaceful activism for Ladakh’s statehood and Sixth Schedule inclusion, and criticizes his transfer to a jail over 1,000 km away.
The court has yet to rule.
