India's indigenous Kavach 4.0 railway safety system is in a "very advanced stage" on the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah corridors, with 1,200 locomotives equipped and nearly 3,000 route kilometers covered.
The system, which automatically controls train speed and stops trains at red signals, operates at the highest safety standard, Safety Integrity Level 4.
Preparatory work like optical fiber and telecom tower installation is ongoing, with the Kota-Mathura section of the Delhi-Mumbai route commissioned in July 2025.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the progress during the Railway Protection Force's 41st Raising Day, highlighting broader upgrades including Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat services, new track construction, and plans for mass-producing Namo Bharat trains.
