A major 24-hour strike in Greece on October 14, 2025, disrupted transportation and public services as unions protested a government labor bill allowing a voluntary 13-hour workday.
The strike, the second in two weeks, involved public and private sector workers, including doctors and transit staff, who opposed the proposed reforms, claiming they undermine workers’ rights, weaken the eight-hour workday, and risk job security.
The legislation, set for a parliamentary vote, also includes provisions for a four-day workweek and benefits for working mothers.
While the government says the changes promote flexibility and worker protections, unions argue they enable employer pressure and exploitation.
Public transit in Athens operated on reduced schedules, but flights remained unaffected.
