Former Iowa shop manager pleads guilty to stealing $950K via fake company using university resources.
Brian Busch, a former University of Iowa machine shop manager, has pleaded guilty to first-degree theft and fraudulent practice after using university resources and staff to generate nearly $950,000 in revenue for his personal company, D3Signtech, over four years.
He failed to disclose his ownership of the business and performed work for it during hours he was paid by the university.
An audit uncovered the scheme in 2021, leading to charges.
As part of the plea deal, Busch must pay $173,097.60 in restitution and faces up to three years of probation.
Sentencing has not yet been scheduled.
