China now has real-time satellite data coverage nationwide, boosting emergency response and monitoring.
China has achieved nationwide real-time satellite data reception since September 2024 with the completion of a ground station in Lijiang, Yunnan.
Operated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the station, along with facilities in Beijing, Kashgar, Sanya, and Mohe, enables immediate data transmission to Beijing for rapid distribution.
This network supports critical applications in navigation, disaster response, environmental monitoring, and urban planning, improving emergency response times for events like fires, earthquakes, and oil spills.
The system, which began in 1986, now provides full territorial coverage.
