Arthur Hoyle II stole a first responder’s car in Morganton, fled, crashed, and was charged with felony larceny.
Arthur Hoyle II, 62, of Hickory, was charged with felony larceny of a motor vehicle after allegedly stealing a first responder’s vehicle in Morganton, North Carolina, on October 11, 2025, while emergency crews responded to a crash involving a blue Toyota Camry.
Hoyle fled in the vehicle, leading to a pursuit that ended when he crashed down an embankment.
He was found at the base of a mountain, taken to a hospital for minor injuries, and later released on a $40,000 secured bond.
No injuries were reported among emergency personnel or the public.
Burke County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated, temporarily closing Burkemont Road.
His next court date is October 13, 2025.
