A 66-year-old man pleaded guilty to repeatedly exposing himself to a woman, causing her significant trauma, and was sentenced to 14 months in prison.
A 66-year-old man, Shaun Eugene Nicholson, pleaded guilty to three counts of committing a sexual act without consent after repeatedly exposing himself to a woman near Stephens Bridge in Armidale over several months, with incidents occurring as early as May 2023 and continuing into February 2024, captured on CCTV and reported by the victim on multiple occasions.
Police said the behavior, which happened more than 20 times, caused the woman significant emotional distress, including sleeplessness and ongoing fear.
Nicholson admitted to drinking alcohol but denied intentional exposure, citing cognitive decline and alcohol use.
The court acknowledged the victim’s trauma and found his actions deliberate despite his health issues, sentencing him to 14 months in prison with a seven-month non-parole period, effectively meaning he will serve time already served plus seven months on parole.
Stalking and intimidation charges were withdrawn as part of a plea agreement.
