UK PM Starmer promotes new India trade deal to boost small business exports, targeting growth through a London pitch event.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer, during a historic trade visit to Mumbai, highlighted efforts to expand export opportunities for UK small businesses, emphasizing the newly announced UK-India trade deal.
With small firms making up 99% of UK businesses and contributing half of private sector turnover, only 22% currently export, and just 12% trade with India, according to 2024 data.
A key initiative, the Great British Pitch event on November 5 in London, will support over 100 export-ready small businesses from tech, food and drink, and creative industries with coaching and live pitches to global buyers and investors.
The event, backed by Small Business Britain and BT, aims to help small firms overcome export barriers and grow internationally, aligning with the government’s Plan for Change to boost economic growth.
