Two women deny stalking charges after contacting Madeleine McCann’s parents with claims that Julia Wandelt might be the missing girl, citing a DNA match and emotional messages.
Julia Wandelt, 24, and Karen Spragg, 61, deny a stalking charge after allegedly contacting Madeleine McCann’s parents with voicemails claiming Wandelt might be the missing girl, who disappeared in 2007.
Recordings played at Leicester Crown Court showed Wandelt, emotionally distressed, urging the McCanns not to believe Madeleine was dead, citing a claimed 70% DNA match with a sample from the original disappearance site, describing childhood memories, and begging for a DNA test.
She reportedly sent over 60 messages in one day and left voicemails at odd hours.
Spragg became emotional during the hearing.
