The Supreme Court will hear the CBI’s appeal against anticipatory bail granted to former IPS officer Rajeev Kumar in the 2013 Saradha chit fund scam, which allegedly defrauded investors of ₹2,500 crore. The CBI argues Kumar must face custodial interrogation, citing threats to its officers and a 2019 standoff with West Bengal over his questioning. Kumar, granted bail in 2019, has not been questioned by the CBI in over six years. The court will consider the appeal alongside related cases, including a contempt petition, on October 17, 2025.
