Over 570,000 UK families may miss up to £2,000 yearly in childcare support by not joining the Tax-Free Childcare scheme.
Working families in the UK may be missing up to £2,000 annually in government childcare support through the Tax-Free Childcare scheme, HMRC reports, with over 570,000 families benefiting as of June.
The scheme offers a government top-up of £2 for every £8 deposited—up to £500 every three months per child under 11, or £1,000 if the child has a disability—amounting to up to £2,000 per year per child, or £4,000 for disabled children under 16.
To qualify, parents must earn at least the minimum wage for 16 hours weekly, earn under £100,000 annually, and not receive Universal Credit or childcare vouchers.
Funds can be used for registered childcare, including holiday and after-school clubs, and unused balances can be withdrawn at any time.
HMRC urges eligible families to sign up via GOV.UK to avoid missing out on savings, especially ahead of school holidays.
