The Ottawa Mission serves 2,500 Thanksgiving meals amid rising food insecurity, with 15,000 meals delivered yearly.
The Ottawa Mission is set to serve about 2,500 Thanksgiving meals, preparing 700 turkeys and thousands of pounds of side dishes with help from over 100 volunteers and executive chef Ric Watson.
The event, running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., will continue as long as people are in line.
This effort is part of a broader initiative delivering 15,000 meals via food trucks and providing 3,200 to 3,500 daily meals year-round.
Watson noted increasing demand due to rising food costs and unemployment, with clients now including the working poor and students, reflecting ongoing food insecurity in Ottawa.
