Oman launches 2026 pasture initiative to restore land, create jobs, and boost sustainable livestock farming in Dhofar.
Oman is launching the Dhofar Pasture Resting Initiative in 2026 to transform livestock farming in Dhofar into a sustainable, eco-friendly industry.
The first phase, targeting Dhalkout and Rakhyout wilayats, aims to restore 10,000 hectares of degraded land, create 1,500 green jobs, and support 1,100 breeders.
The project, aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and net-zero goals by 2050, seeks to boost incomes for 455,000 people directly and over 5 million indirectly.
It leverages Dhofar’s seasonal climate for rain-fed crops and aims to attract foreign investment in livestock and agriculture.
The initiative, developed with input from government, private, and civil society stakeholders, was launched during COP16 and involves multiple national and international partners.
