Nigeria's government says it met most ASUU demands, calling the union's strike unjustified.
Nigeria’s government, through Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa, claims it has met nearly all demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), calling its two-week warning strike unjustified.
Alausa stated the government has released ₦50 billion from a ₦150 billion Needs Assessment Fund, mainstreamed earned academic allowances into salaries, and committed to paying promotion arrears and wage awards in the 2026 budget.
He said ASUU failed to respond within a 24-hour window after a final proposal on October 10, prompting the strike despite ongoing engagement.
The strike, beginning October 13, 2025, is being led by ASUU, while rival union CONUA confirmed it is not participating, citing a commitment to dialogue and academic stability.
El gobierno de Nigeria dice que cumplió con la mayoría de las demandas de ASUU, calificando de injustificada la huelga del sindicato.
