New Zealand and Pacific partners completed early infrastructure upgrades on Ma’uke Island, boosting energy, water, and health services.
The New Zealand Defence Force completed Exercise Tropic Twilight on Ma’uke Island in the Cook Islands, finishing a month of infrastructure upgrades to the solar farm, water systems, school, and community halls ahead of schedule.
Supported by personnel from Australia, Fiji, Tonga, and Vanuatu, and funded by New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the team delivered critical repairs, installed solar hot water systems, replaced pumps, and improved hospital facilities.
Nineteen tonnes of supplies were flown in by C-130J Hercules, with 25 tonnes shipped.
The work enhanced energy efficiency and water security, while community engagement through sports and cultural exchange strengthened regional ties.
Local leaders expressed gratitude for the lasting benefits.
