Ghana has secured €154 million from Italy to launch a three-year agricultural modernization project focused on building climate resilience and food security.
The initiative, signed in Bari, Italy, will develop 10,000 hectares of irrigated farmland in the Volta Region for maize, rice, tomatoes, and soybeans, with year-round irrigation to boost production.
It includes partnerships with research institutions to create soil maps, crop suitability charts, and a national seed bank.
The project supports Ghana’s goal of expanding solar-powered irrigation to 1 million hectares by 2028 and aims to benefit farmers, youth entrepreneurs, and over 23,000 people in rural communities through improved infrastructure and agricultural capacity.
