The EU and partners pledged €900M for Kyrgyzstan’s Kambarata-1 hydropower project, boosting clean energy and regional cooperation.
In October 2025, the EU and its financial partners announced major investments in Central Asia, including €900 million from the EU and EIB and a potential €1.3 billion from the EBRD for Kyrgyzstan’s Kambarata-1 hydropower project, set to become the country’s largest plant.
The project, on the Naryn River, will generate 1,860 MW of clean energy and store over five billion cubic meters of water, enhancing regional energy security, irrigation, and climate resilience.
The initiative, part of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy and Team Europe approach, aims to strengthen cooperation among Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan on water, energy, and climate issues, while promoting sustainable development and private investment.
