The Dutch government seized control of Nexperia over national security fears linked to Chinese ownership.
The Dutch government has taken emergency control of Nexperia, a Dutch semiconductor firm owned by Chinese company Wingtech, citing national security concerns over potential sensitive technology transfers.
On October 1, an Amsterdam court froze Wingtech’s leadership control and placed its shares under third-party management, with a foreign national given decisive voting rights.
The move, backed by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, follows alleged administrative shortcomings and is described as highly exceptional.
Wingtech calls it politically driven and contrary to trade norms, while Nexperia says it remains compliant with laws and export controls.
The dispute adds to tensions over technology exports, including U.S. restrictions on Wingtech and Dutch export rules on ASML equipment.
The situation may be challenged in court.
