Delhi Metro seeks 500 million kWh of renewable energy to exceed 60% clean power use by 2027.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has invited bids for 500 million units of annual renewable energy to increase its clean power use to over 60%, aiming to make it India’s first metro system to source more than half its energy from renewables.
The project involves building a grid-connected solar plant with battery storage under a 25-year power agreement, with completion expected within 15 months.
Currently, DMRC gets about 33% of its power from renewables, including solar from the Rewa Park and rooftop installations, with renewables covering nearly 65% of daytime demand.
The move supports India’s climate commitments and sustainable transit goals.
