China regained two ancient Warring States silk manuscripts stolen in 1946, returned by the U.S. after cooperation.
On October 13, 2025, China’s Hunan Museum welcomed the return of two ancient silk manuscripts from the Warring States Period, originally stolen in 1946 and repatriated after U.S.-China cooperation.
The texts, among the oldest known Chinese books, contain early records of astronomy, calendars, and divination.
They were returned by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art and will be permanently housed in Changsha.
Officials hailed the return as a milestone in international cultural restitution.
