China has launched a pilot sustainable transport certification system in Beijing to support its 2030 carbon peak and 2060 carbon neutrality goals.
Led by China Energy Engineering Group and the Global Sustainable Transport Innovation and Knowledge Center, the program aims to standardize sustainable fuels, align with international maritime rules, and boost energy security.
Two projects are involved: a green ammonia facility in Jilin using advanced tech to manage renewable energy fluctuations, and a green methanol plant in Inner Mongolia producing 100,000 tonnes annually from waste, with plans to expand to 300,000 tonnes by 2030.
The initiative is expected to drive green growth and contribute to global shipping decarbonization.
