Afghan FM's Delhi press event excluded women journalists, sparking backlash, as India pledged new healthcare aid amid cautious ties.
Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s press conference in New Delhi was marred by the exclusion of women journalists, drawing criticism from Indian officials and opposition leaders, including former Home Minister P. Chidambaram, who called for male journalists to boycott in protest.
The event, held during Muttaqi’s first high-level visit to India since the Taliban’s 2021 takeover, occurred without government involvement, according to the Ministry of External Affairs, which stated it had no role in organizing the interaction.
Despite the controversy, India announced new healthcare initiatives for Afghanistan, including hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers, while reaffirming its cautious diplomatic engagement with the Taliban-led government.
El evento de prensa de Delhi del FM afgano excluyó a las mujeres periodistas, lo que provocó una reacción violenta, ya que la India prometió nueva ayuda de salud en medio de relaciones cautelosas.
