Russia successfully tests RD-171MV engine, advancing Soyuz-5 launch plans for December.
Russia has successfully tested the RD-171MV engine on the Soyuz-5 rocket’s first stage, generating 800 tons of thrust for 160 seconds, a key step toward its December launch from Baikonur Cosmodrome.
The medium-class Soyuz-5, designed to replace older rockets, can carry up to 17 tons to orbit and will support the Baiterek project with Kazakhstan.
Roscosmos plans to nearly double annual launch rates, aiming for about 30 rockets and 1,000 spacecraft over the next decade.
