Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited Thailand’s southern border provinces on October 11, 2025, launching a new 2026 security plan focused on intelligence, law enforcement, and inter-agency cooperation amid a recent surge in attacks including bombings and a gold heist.
He dismissed links between the violence and leadership changes, stressed immediate security action, and emphasized cross-border coordination without confirming a physical barrier.
The trip marked the first joint field mission with newly appointed peace panel head Gen Somsak Rungsita, who will lead talks with the BRN using Malaysia as a facilitator.
Anutin also visited wounded personnel and reinforced efforts to transition security responsibilities to civilian authorities by 2027.
