Oxfordshire approved lower speed limits on the A4074 after a 2024 crash to boost safety, despite opposition over delays.
Oxfordshire County Council has approved new 40mph and 50mph speed limits on the A4074 between Oxford and Reading, including sections through Nuneham Courteney, Berinsfield, Wallingford, and Woodcote, following a major crash in 2024.
The changes, part of the Vision Zero initiative, aim to reduce fatalities and serious injuries by lowering speeds on dual and single carriageways previously limited to 70mph and 60mph.
While some local groups support the move for safety, others, including bus operators and parish councils, oppose it, citing concerns over travel delays and efficiency.
A public consultation saw 57% to 65% of responses objecting.
The Sandford-on-Thames Bypass will remain at 60mph.
