Oman has enacted new labor regulations effective October 12, 2025, to protect domestic workers including nannies, drivers, cooks, and home nurses.
The rules, under Ministerial Resolution No.
574/2025, mandate fair wages, rest periods, healthcare, and proper housing, prohibit forced labor and passport withholding, and require electronic contract registration.
Workers must be at least 21, with contracts in Arabic, up to 12 work hours daily including 8 rest hours, and one paid day off weekly.
Annual leave is 21 days, sick leave 30 days with a medical certificate, and overtime capped at 2 hours daily at the daily wage rate.
Employers have three months to comply, must provide food, transportation, and health insurance, and maintain worker files for one year.
Contracts automatically renew unless terminated with two months’ notice.
