BSF appoints Bhawna Chaudhary as first female flight engineer in its 50-year history.
The Border Security Force (BSF) has appointed Inspector Bhawna Chaudhary as its first female flight engineer, a historic milestone in the force’s over 50-year aviation history.
Chaudhary, along with four male colleagues, completed a two-month in-house training program with 130 hours of instruction and real-world experience during flood relief missions in Punjab and other states.
The program was launched after the Indian Air Force could not accommodate a second batch of BSF trainees.
The BSF air wing, which operates helicopters like the Mi-17V5 and ALH Dhruv, as well as an Embraer jet, supports border security and internal operations.
The initiative reflects the force’s efforts to address a long-standing shortage of flight engineers and expand gender inclusion in technical roles.
