A 63-year-old man died at Melbourne's Merri station after being restrained by train officers; police are investigating as a possible homicide.

A 63-year-old man died at Merri railway station in Melbourne after being handcuffed by train Protective Service Officers following erratic behavior linked to substance use. The man, who sought help on a train and exited at the station, became unresponsive around 9:45 p.m. PSOs performed CPR but could not revive him. Victoria Police have launched a homicide investigation with oversight from the Professional Standards Command, in line with protocol for deaths in custody. The circumstances, including the use of restraints and medical response, are under review.
