Uttar Pradesh will target trade with 10 new countries if tariffs are imposed, boosting its carpet and craft industries.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on October 11, 2025, that the state will pursue trade with 10 new countries if one imposes tariffs, emphasizing resilience amid global challenges.
Speaking at the 49th International Kaleen Mela and 4th Carpet Expo in Bhadohi, he highlighted the carpet industry’s revival since 2014, now supporting 25–30 lakh jobs and generating ₹17,000 crore in annual exports.
The event drew 300–400 foreign buyers from 88 countries.
He credited state initiatives like MSME and ODOP for boosting regional crafts, including Bhadohi carpets, Varanasi silk, and Firozabad glass, and pledged a high-level committee to monitor tariffs.
Plans were unveiled to develop Bhadohi, Varanasi, and Mirzapur as a unified economic zone, with a focus on women’s empowerment and home-based work.
