A 16-unit EV charging hub is proposed near Chippenham’s busy roundabout, sparking debate over traffic and environmental benefits.
Plans have been submitted to build a 16-unit rapid EV charging hub near Chequers Roundabout in Chippenham, Wiltshire, led by InstaVolt Ltd and Cooper Estates.
The project includes battery storage, a substation, and safety features, part of a £350 million investment to expand the UK’s charging network to 10,000 points by 2030.
While InstaVolt says the site will support cleaner air and economic growth, Chippenham Town Council warns it could worsen traffic congestion at the already busy roundabout, affecting nearby businesses.
A transport consultant is expected to assess traffic and safety impacts, though no formal report was available at submission.
Supporting studies on noise, drainage, ecology, and lighting were included.
The proposal is under review.
