Ohio closes four rest areas for year-long upgrades to modern lodge-style facilities.
The Ohio Department of Transportation is closing four highway rest areas in Summit and Lake counties starting October 14 for a year-long renovation.
The facilities, built in the 1980s, will be rebuilt as lodge-style stops with improved restrooms, vending machines, outdoor spaces, storybook trails, and tourism information.
Local Ohio music will be featured to promote state culture.
The project is part of a statewide effort to upgrade 36 rest areas, following completed renovations in Portage and Ashtabula counties.
The sites will remain closed to the public until late 2026.
Drivers are advised to exit the highway for food and restroom breaks.
