NHL suspends Islanders' Drouin one game for cross-checking Penguins' Dewar.
New York Islanders forward Jonathan Drouin has been suspended for one game without pay by the NHL Department of Player Safety following a cross-check on Pittsburgh Penguins' Connor Dewar with 15 seconds left in a 4-3 Islanders loss on Thursday.
The hit resulted in a five-minute major penalty and game misconduct.
The suspension, which costs Drouin over $20,000, will donate the amount to the NHL's Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
The game marked the NHL debut of top pick Matthew Schaefer.
Drouin, 30, signed a two-year, $8 million contract with the Islanders this offseason and scored a goal in the season opener.
He has 375 career points in 608 games with Tampa Bay, Montreal, Colorado, and New York.
