flag Maharashtra to enforce new rules for ride-hailing apps starting Oct. 11, 2025, including licensing, fare caps, driver limits, and language requirements.

Maharashtra has released draft rules for app-based cab and e-rickshaw services like Ola, Uber, and Rapido, set to take effect October 11, 2025. The regulations mandate licensing with fees up to Rs 10 lakh, vehicle age limits of nine years for cabs and autos, and eight for buses. Surge pricing is capped at 1.5 times the base fare, with minimum fares not falling below 75% of the base rate. Drivers face 12-hour daily limits, 10-hour rest periods, and a mandatory 30-hour training program. Poorly rated drivers (below 2 stars) must retrain before returning. Passenger insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh is optional, and apps must support Marathi, Hindi, and English, with real-time location sharing and destination visibility only after trip acceptance. Public feedback is due by October 17.
