Indian para-athlete Simran Sharma’s medals are at risk after her guide, Umar Saifi, was suspended for doping.
India’s medal count at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships is under threat after Umar Saifi, the guide for visually impaired athlete Simran Sharma, was provisionally suspended by NADA for a positive test for Drostanolone.
The suspension, linked to a sample collected before the event, puts Sharma’s gold in the 100m and silver in the 200m T12 events at risk, as guides and athletes are treated as a team under para-athletics rules.
The decision, announced just before a government felicitation, led to the event being made closed-door.
Questions have emerged about how Saifi competed despite the positive test, and the Sports Ministry has been briefed on additional doping violations.
The case is under review by WADA, with the final outcome pending.
