India achieved its 2030 green energy target five years early in 2025, with 50% non-fossil capacity, and pledged global climate cooperation.
India’s Union Minister Manohar Lal, representing the country at the G20 Energy Transitions Meeting in South Africa, announced India achieved its 2030 goal of 50% non-fossil fuel energy capacity five years early in 2025.
He highlighted India’s progress in green hydrogen, nuclear power expansion to 100 GW by 2047, and 20% ethanol blending, along with leadership in the Global Biofuels Alliance, now with 32 countries and 14 organizations.
Lal called for global cooperation on energy security, climate justice, and technology transfer, reaffirmed support for Africa’s Mission 300 to electrify 300 million people by 2030, and invited global leaders to the Bharat Urja Manthan energy conclave in New Delhi in March 2026.
He also held bilateral talks with South Africa and Denmark.
