A Dutch man’s research led to the recovery of a Nazi-looted painting in Argentina, linked to a high-ranking Nazi’s family.
Dutch retiree Paul Post, after finding his father’s wartime diaries in 2010, traced a Nazi-looted painting to Argentina, where Patricia Kadgien, daughter of a high-ranking Nazi official, was charged with concealing it.
The artwork, believed stolen from Jewish dealer Jacques Goudstikker, was spotted in a real estate listing and recovered in September 2025.
Post’s amateur research helped link the painting to Friedrich Kadgien’s postwar movements, highlighting ongoing global efforts to recover Holocaust-era art, with an estimated 600,000 pieces looted and over 100,000 still unreturned.
