Chad expelled African Parks from managing its national parks, citing poaching, poor funding, and disrespectful conduct, despite a recent agreement renewal.
Chad has ended African Parks’ 15-year management of several national parks, citing rising poaching, inadequate investment, and a “recurring indelicate and disrespectful attitude” toward government officials.
The decision affects reserves including Zakouma and Siniaka-Minia national parks and the Ennedi Natural and Cultural Reserve, despite a recent agreement renewal for Ennedi.
African Parks, which manages 22 African protected areas and has helped increase elephant numbers in Zakouma, said it is in discussions with Chadian authorities to understand the move and explore continued cooperation.
The revocation comes amid broader scrutiny of the group’s operations, including past human rights allegations in the Republic of Congo.
