WWII bombardier Blaine Wilcox, missing since 1944, was buried in Iowa on the 81st anniversary of his death after remains were identified.
Second Lt. Blaine Wilcox, a World War II bombardier killed in 1944 when his B-17 was shot down over Poland, was laid to rest in his Iowa hometown of Glenwood on October 9, 2025, more than 80 years after his death.
His remains were identified by Offutt Air Force Base’s forensics lab and repatriated through the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency.
The burial, held on the anniversary of his death, brought together family members from across the U.S., including his niece Lois Aistrope, who recalled childhood memories and emotional closure after decades of uncertainty.
The ceremony, conducted by the Army with support from the American Legion and Patriot Guard Riders, honored a soldier whose sacrifice had long gone unrecognized.
