South Carolina is re-examining the 2023 road rage shooting of Scott Spivey after allegations of police misconduct.
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has ordered a new review of the 2023 shooting death of Scott Spivey, in which businessman Weldon Boyd shot Spivey during a road rage incident.
The request follows allegations of potential misconduct by Horry County Police officers, including former deputy chief Brandon Strickland and officer Damon Vescovi, who are accused of bias and improper conduct during the investigation.
While the state previously concluded Boyd acted in self-defense under the "Stand Your Ground" law, Wilson now seeks a re-evaluation due to new concerns, including body camera footage and civil litigation.
The Seventh Circuit Solicitor’s office will reassess all evidence, including possible misconduct, but the request does not signal a change in position.
The case remains under scrutiny amid political and public attention.
