The Rising People’s Party (RPP) challenged the Naga Students’ Federation’s (NSF) claim that Nagas are the only indigenous people of Nagaland, citing official state recognition of the Kachari, Kuki, Garo, and Mikir tribes as indigenous.
The RPP highlighted that these groups are eligible for Scheduled Tribe and Indigenous Inhabitant Certificates and that 24 police constable positions were reserved for them.
It criticized the NSF’s Inner Line Regulation Commission for labeling them as migrants, calling the stance inconsistent with government policy, jingoistic, and damaging to the state’s image.
The RPP urged the NSF to retract the statement, dismissing it as a publicity stunt.
