Minnesota DNR opens 158-acre hunting area in Big Stone County, funded by donation and conservation sales.
The Minnesota DNR dedicated a new 158-acre public hunting area in Big Stone County on October 9, 2025, expanding the Big Stone Wildlife Management Area.
Acquired through a donation by Patrick Greuel, the land was transferred to Pheasants Forever, which cleared a building site and sold it to the DNR.
Proceeds will fund conservation efforts.
The DNR will develop parking, restore wetlands, and rehabilitate prairie habitats, aiming for a thriving wildlife area within five years.
The dedication event, held at the Ortonville Armory with shuttle service, honored Minnesota’s hunting traditions.
