A former Boston Red Sox outfielder and two-time All-Star nicknamed “Gator,” Greenwell played his entire MLB career with the Red Sox, was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame in 2008, and batted .303 over his career.
Appointed to Lee County Commission District 5 in 2022 following the death of Frank Mann, he was re-elected in 2024.
A lifelong resident of North Fort Myers, Greenwell operated a farm, market, and family fun park, which he sold due to highway expansion.
He also competed in bass fishing and race car driving.

His seat will be filled by a gubernatorial appointment until the 2026 election.
