LAUSD students achieved record-high test scores in reading, math, and science, surpassing pre-pandemic levels across all grades, according to the district’s latest data.
The Smarter Balanced assessments showed 46.5% meeting or exceeding standards in English language arts, 36.8% in math, and 27.3% in science—marking gains over both prior years and pre-pandemic benchmarks.
Superintendent Alberto Carvalho called it a “historic moment,” noting LAUSD now outperforms the state.
However, more than half of students still fall short of proficiency.
While California as a whole saw modest year-over-year improvements, proficiency levels remain below pre-pandemic highs, with equity gaps persisting, especially for low-income and English learner students.
