A groundwater recharge project in India’s Bundelkhand region raised water levels by 5–6 feet, improving farming and reducing migration.
A large-scale groundwater recharge project in India’s drought-prone Bundelkhand region, led by The Art of Living with support from government and private partners, has improved water availability over two years.
By constructing 238 recharge structures across 42.82 square kilometers, the initiative has raised groundwater levels by five to six feet in Birdha block, enabling farmers to irrigate crops more reliably, cut diesel use, and reduce migration.
The project has also revived local ecosystems and empowered communities to manage water sustainably, offering a replicable model for drought-affected areas.
