Former Evanston/Skokie School District 65 Superintendent Devon Horton was indicted on 17 federal charges, including wire fraud, honest-services fraud, and tax evasion, over alleged misconduct from 2020 to 2023.
The indictment alleges he steered contracts to companies linked to associates, accepted kickbacks totaling about $81,700, used a district procurement card for personal expenses, and underreported income.
Authorities seek forfeiture of over $293,500.
Horton, now superintendent of DeKalb County Schools in Georgia, was placed on paid administrative leave, with Dr. Norman C. Sauce III named interim leader.
His attorney denied the charges, calling them unrelated to his current role, and said Horton plans to fight the case.
The DeKalb County Board confirmed it is cooperating with the investigation.
