An Uber driver in Palm Springs, Florida, faces a felony charge of false imprisonment after allegedly driving away from a daycare with a six-month-old baby in a car seat, according to police.
The incident occurred around 4:58 p.m. on October 10, 2025, when the baby’s mother briefly returned inside to get her other child, leaving the rear door open.
She said she saw driver Nathan Velez, 26, leave with the car seat just two minutes later.
She chased the vehicle and called 911.
Velez told police he believed the seat was empty and admitted he should have checked before driving.
He later returned the baby after being contacted by the mother.
