The Special Investigations Unit has cleared Brantford Police officers in an investigation into a February arrest where a man claimed he suffered a torn bicep. Officers responded to a domestic disturbance call, arrested an intoxicated man who was aggressive, subdued him, handcuffed him behind his back, and lifted him to his feet. Video and witness accounts showed the man reported no arm injury during booking, displayed full arm movement, signed documents, and dressed himself without difficulty. He later reported a bruise and underwent surgery two days after the arrest. The SIU found no evidence of excessive force, concluding the injury likely occurred during the lifting maneuver, which was deemed reasonable given the man’s aggression. No criminal charges were warranted, and the case is closed.
