A 22-year-old man, Daniel Bustamente-Garzon, was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in a May 2024 home invasion in Richmond Hill, Ontario, where he and two others attacked artist Abraham Reyes, demanding the $140 million "gigapearl."
Though the pearl was not stolen, the assailants took valuable gems, pearls, and luxury items worth millions.
Reyes suffered a concussion and lasting trauma.
Bustamente-Garzon, who pleaded guilty to multiple charges, received credit for eight months in custody.
The two other suspects remain at large.
