A 22-year-old hiker was rescued on October 7, 2025, after spending a night trapped in a canyon crevice at Cedar Canyon Wildlife Management Area, south of Gering, Nebraska.
The incident occurred on October 6 when he became stranded while descending a bluff near dusk and could not return.
He shared his location with a contact, who alerted Nebraska Game and Parks.
Conservation officers, Gering Fire and Rescue, and other agencies responded, using repelling equipment to lower a harness and lift him to safety.
Regional West Emergency Management Services evaluated him on-site and released him.
The Nebraska State Patrol and Gering Police assisted in the operation.
