A 23-year-old Venezuelan man, Cristhian Ortega-Lopez, pleaded guilty to illegally possessing firearms and conspiring to destroy evidence after posting videos and photos of himself using weapons on social media.
He entered the U.S. illegally in December 2023 and was living in the Las Cruces home of April Cano and her parents, Nancy and Jose Cano—former judge and his wife.
Authorities seized four firearms from the home, and Ortega-Lopez admitted he knew the possession was illegal and conspired to delete his Facebook account to obstruct justice.
The Canos were indicted on federal charges related to tampering with evidence and remain free on bond.
Ortega-Lopez faces up to 20 years in prison.
